ARTIST PROFILE

Jackie Heda, B.A., B.Sc. A.A.M., CMI is a medical illustrator and fine artist, who has dedicated the past 30 years to creating art for science and the healthcare industry. Her illustrations have appeared in countless scientific and medical textbooks and journals, and her work has been commissioned by major biotechnical and pharmaceutical companies in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

She is a Board Certified member of the Association of Medical Illustrators, has served on the Board of Governors of the AMI, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Medical Illustration Sourcebook.

Jackie has a postgraduate degree in Medical Illustration (Art as Applied to Medicine) from The University of Toronto. She studied art at Virginia Commonwealth University, and received her undergraduate degree from Emory University.

Of special interest is her desire to educate and enlighten patient and consumer audiences with respect to health and disease. Her work illustrating The Harvard Medical School Health Guide (Simon & Schuster, 1999) entailed a full color section "How the Body Works". The 1300 page health guide was chosen as one of top ten medical books for 1999 and her illustrations appeared on NBC's Today Show. She has just completed illustrations for a book on how the heart works, authored by a cardiovascular surgeon, to be published this year. Excerpts from the book will be posted on this site soon.
